David Smillie

David is a Partner in our Commercial Team. He has been a partner of the firm since 2007 and has extensive experience across a wide variety of corporate, property and commercial law matters.  

David works for clients in a variety of different sectors including education, manufacturing, retail, franchises, property, forestry, aviation and technology.

• Capital raising and negotiation of preference shares for incoming overseas investor
• Reviewing and advising on grant funding agreement from Ministry of Primary Industries with focus on extensive intellectual property provisions
• Purchase of national gym franchises
• Advising on Ngai Tahi first right of refusal obligations for institutional clients
• Sale of technology company with >50 shareholders and including warranty and indemnity insurance provisions
• Reviewing and advising on significant commercial contracts with international broadcasters
• Acquisition and sale of substantial commercial properties and forestry properties
